I was born in Montreal, Quebec (Canada), and lived there up until 2004. It is a beautiful and inspiring city to live in, for the two and a half months of summer it gets. The rest of the year is cold, colder and coldest. I am enjoying Tucson, a city that goes to other extremes of the temperature scale.

When I left Montreal, and followed my new husband to Tucson, one of the things I missed was working with inner-city children, bringing them art and creativity. So, I started to volunteer as an art teacher at an elementary school in a financially disadvantaged area here in my new adopted city. Working with kids is challenging, but I found I got more back than I could ever give out.

Artist, illustrator, art teacher for more than 25 years. I have worked in hospitals as a medical illustrator, switched to being a graphic artist, a fashion illustrator, a private art teacher, a self-taught calligrapher and oil/water-color painter. Through it all, I wrote books and illustrated some of them. As a driven and hopefully inspired artist, it has been easier to create the work than it has been to find the courage to bring it to market. My life’s partner is no longer allowing me to be content with hiding in the shadows, and allowing my life’s work to pile up.

The book, “Cannelle in Her New Home”, was created during a time I was a single mother, working full-time, and I squeezed out time for my art during evenings and weekends, when I found a few moments to myself. Art and creating are more of an obsession, in that if I don’t do it I can’t eat or sleep. It was never a question of “Someday I will find the time to do it.” It was more, “Someday I will find the time to catch up on the dusting!” Housework can wait, art can’t! Art is my passion, which I turn to express my joy and my sorrows. It is simply what I NEED to do in order to be the real me, and is my filter through which I see life.

There are many ways to express the creative spirit, and I am one who loves to try to learn many things and to have a few different projects going all at the same time, to rotate my time not to become oversaturated with just one thing. I don’t believe an artist needs to choose only one medium or one style; rather, life is much more exciting to have a selection to choose from!
